Kraken’s advanced direct imaging technology empowers operators to fully understand the shape, size and morphology of anomalies and their root cause before digging.

Kraken leverages the latest developments from in-the-ditch based handheld systems, medical imaging, and lab-quality NDT to deliver a step-change in resolution, probability of detection, and sizing accuracy – all at full line speed.

Unlike conventional tools built for a single anomaly type, Kraken’s high-resolution direct imaging ILI technology measures metal loss, axial cracks, and pipe wall geometry changes in a single run. Its 0.01in resolution generates a unified 3D dataset that reveals the true morphology and severity of every anomaly — reducing false positives and lowering measurement uncertainty.

DarkVision has built 13 foundation AI models developed on the world’s largest ultrasonic testing datasets. These models continuously improve as new inspection data is ingested — growing smarter with every run. The result is an unmatched ability to process the vast volumes of data generated, precisely identify and size critical and interacting defects, and significantly reduce the false positives and negatives that burden operators using legacy tools.

Kraken identifies and quantifies laminations with precision, mapping their width, depth, slope, and if there is surface breaking from the wall.

Kraken detects and sizes cracks with submillimetric resolution. It delivers a step-change over conventional tools when it matters most: complex weld-interacting cracks, including hook cracks, short and deep cracks, angled cracks, axially intermittent and radially stacked crack morphologies that legacy systems routinely miss, misidentify, or missize.

Kraken’s multi-mode imaging captures and measures each part of the interacting anomalies clearly and in a single data set. When multiple defect types interact — metal loss or gouging over a dent, cracks interacting with a lamination, or SCC crack fields with pitting corrosion— Kraken can comprehensively assess each component.

Kraken precisely measures remaining wall thickness along the pipe circumference, identifying internal and external corrosion, erosion, and general metal loss with higher spatial resolution than conventional tools.

Kraken goes beyond standard geometry measurement — not only detecting dents, ovality, buckles, and wrinkle bends, but revealing what is on the outer surface of geometric deformation and anomalies. Operators gain insight into root causes, coating integrity, and whether metal loss, gouging, or cracking is present at the site of a geometry change.

DarkVision is thrilled to announce that Kraken received this year’s PPIM Innovation Award — presented to just one company — in recognition of groundbreaking innovations in pipeline integrity.
