Retrieving A Stuck Valve

An operator in the Eagle Ford basin had started to see a decline in production performance in one of their wells, and after repeated attempts, they were unable to retrieve a valve in the tubing. After multiple fishing operations were unsuccessful, the operator called DarkVision to understand why.

Results

HADES-F was deployed and revealed that multiple fishing attempts had pushed the fish down well and flattened the top. The valve had also been pushed against the casing, making it more challenging to latch onto.

The insights helped the operator understand why an on-off tool was unable to latch onto the valve. With a clear understanding of the stinger’s position, they determined they would have to modify their fishing operations to the specific geometry in order to retrieve the valve. Following retrieval, they cleaned out the lateral and were able to return the well to previous production levels.
